Exciting Changes Ahead for Our Server!

After chatting with our support team about some upload issues and quirks with the mount functions, we’ve discovered some fantastic news: a server closer to home is now available! 🎉 This new location promises faster uploads and (hopefully) smoother functionality. Naturally, we were eager to make the switch and got on a wait list. But today they started it with no warning...

Here’s the scoop:

When we first signed up for the current Cantaloupe server, this closer location wasn’t an option. But now it is! The plan is to move our server from the Netherlands to the USA. However, we don’t have a confirmed timeline just yet, keep an eye out here, the blogs, and telegram feed channel for more info.

What does this mean for you?

There’s a small chance you’ll temporarily lose access to blockbuster videos for a day or two. But don’t worry! As always, any downtime will be added back to your account.

One heads-up: our domain will also get a slight makeover. The trusty cantaloupe.whatbox.ca will become [something fresh].whatbox.ca. We’ll keep you posted on the exact changes and timing as soon as we know more.

Just a heads-up: There’s no set timeline for this move to finish, could be hours or days... When we have more information, we’ll be sure to let you know. For now, we just wanted to give you an early notice (as early as possible at least) so you’re in the loop.

We've innovated a delivery method in which 3D converted video files are downloaded or streamed to the user for an unparalleled viewing experience using VR glasses/headsets and any other device that can play this media. Our platform is experimental and primarily serves developmental purposes. We are not in competition with traditional 3D markets like TV broadcasting, Hollywood Blockbusters, Blu-ray playback, or any other market involved in the sales and distribution of 3D converted media. Rather, our focus is on expanding accessibility to 3D technology to new audiences. We are primarily and specifically distributing conversions of movies that never officially existed in 3D. These are skilled conversions, we do not wish to further alienate the public by distributing low quality auto-converted media.

Any potential income generated through advertising and other means is solely intended to cover our operational costs. Our mission is to show the media Industry that our delivery method offers a viable alternative channel for distributing 3D content globally and most importantly that 3D conversions and 3D as a media genre is able to appeal to a mainstream audience with the availability and convenience of standalone VR headsets which is a yet untapped market. In addition, VR headsets are in many cases cheaper then the expensive 3D Televisions that never caught on, and in fact gives an undeniably better viewing experience.

If you represent a company that holds the legal rights to any of the titles or converted any of these files featured on our platform, you're welcome to reach out to us through email/social media for further information, collaboration opportunities, or to request the removal of titles you represent/converted. We believe our platform represents the ideal convergence of speed and quality, offering the freedom to choose content that is conveniently accessible to VR headset devices.
