The Great Server Shuffle: A 3DFlickFix Update

So, after some serious soul-searching (and more than a few head-scratching moments), I’ve come to a decision about our current server setup at 3D Flick Fix. Here’s the situation: the new server’s (Cantaloupe) location is giving me randomly TERRIBLE upload speeds. We’re talking the kind of speeds that make you question your life choices—sometimes struggling to top 1MB/s. For reference, when I first moved the Blockbuster Movies folder over from the original server, it was blazing along at 100MB/s per file. Now? It’s like watching molasses crawl uphill in winter.

Here’s the kicker: the total upload speed often reads at 656KB/s, yet individual files show much faster transfer rates. Confusing? Yes. Frustrating? Absolutely. And while I suspect it’s not entirely due to my location, we’re still stuck with this issue for now. So, what’s the plan?

Enter the New Strategy

Since moving those Blockbuster Movies to the new server (Cantaloupe) freed up space on the original one (Sputnik), I’ve decided to pivot. Moving forward, NEW Blockbuster Movies will be uploaded to the original server (a.k.a. Sputnik). That’s right—our old faithful is back in action.

Here’s how it’ll work:

  • Existing Blockbuster Movies will stay on Cantaloupe. No need to move what’s already there.

  • New additions to the Blockbuster lineup will be uploaded to the original server (Sputnik) in a folder called New Blockbuster.

  • I’m also planning to host the VR porn mirror on Sputnik once it’s populated (because variety is the spice of life).

What This Means for You

Yes, it’s a bit of a juggling act until our USA-based server comes online. I’ve already requested a transfer from Cantaloupe to the new U.S. server, which should solve the issue, whether it’s location-related or not. Unfortunately, there’s no ETA on when that’ll happen—we’re just waiting our turn in line.

In the meantime, expect a new folder in the 3DFF directory called “NEW Blockbuster.” This will house all the latest blockbuster content, so be sure to check it out.

Updating Your rclone Config

If you’re using rclone to mount or stream your files, you’ll need to update your config to point to the new folder. If you have the new-style rclone with three remotes, you need to change line 21 to:

upstreams = "New Blockbuster Movies=3DFlickFix:New Blockbuster" "JFC=3DFlickFix:JFC" "TV Shows=3DFlickFix:TV Shows" "VR Videos=3DFlickFix:VR Videos (180-360 Degree)" "Blockbuster Movies=3DFlickFix2:Blockbuster Movies"

Don’t worry; it’s easier than it sounds. For those who’d rather not mess with it, I’ve made a PowerShell script that I converted into an executable for ease of use. Just drop the new-style config onto it, and it will update the line for you. Get Change3DFFConfig.exe HERE.

And for anyone still using the old-style config with only the original Sputnik remote, I’ve made another executable. This one comes bundled with rclone.exe. Simply extract the two files to the same folder, then launch it, provide your login info (username and password) when asked, and it will auto-generate a whole new config for you. Get the 3DFFConfigGenerator.exe HERE

I’ll also be posting these tools on the Rentry page, so don’t worry about bookmarking this blog post.

TL;DR

  • Cantaloupe = existing Blockbuster Movies.

  • Sputnik = new Blockbuster Movies + VR porn mirror (coming soon™).

  • New USA server = incoming fix for current upload issues (eventually, more info when we get it).

It’s a bit of a workaround for now, but this setup ensures we keep the content flowing as smoothly as possible. Thanks for sticking with us through these technical hiccups. As always, your support keeps 3DFF running (and me sane—mostly).

Stay tuned for more updates, and feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. Here’s to faster uploads and fewer headaches ahead!
